John Wayne Jones, age 88, of Phenix, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Mr. Jones was born on November 10, 1922, in Galax, VA. He was the son of the late Louie D. and Cora Jones. He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Curtis Rennie, Homer, and L. M. Jones; four sisters, Hazel Carrico, Jessie Carter, Ethel Lineberry, and Laddie Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hedy Jo Liddle Jones; his three sons, Robert Wayne Bob and Becky, John Michael and Marilyn, James David Jimmy and Debbie; five grandchildren, Christy and Jon Bayne, Amy and Michael Morris, Michelle and Greg Owens, Benjamin and Teresa Jones, David Steven Jones; and five great-grandchildren.
He is also, survived by one brother-in-law, Bill Edwards of Galax, VA, and sister-in-law, Betty Lee Jones of Charlotte Court House. Also, several nephews, nieces, and very special niece, Elizabeth L. Trent.
John Wayne was a World War II Veteran having served in England, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Phenix Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Cullen Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, on Friday, June 24, 2011, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and at the home other times. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad or the Phenix Methodist Church. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
