Bernice Smith Walker, 89, went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Blanche and Emmett Smith. Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, as well as by her parents and five siblings, Bruce, Garland, Margaret, Woodson, and Mary.

Bernice loved Jesus with all her heart and it was obvious to everyone she met. She and Johnny owned and operated Harvest House Bible and Gift Shop in Danville for nineteen years. The bookstore was Bernice’s vision and served as a local ministry to share Jesus with the community. They sold the business to Family Christian Stores in 1995.

She is survived by three daughters: Karen (Ed) Quigley, Kathy (Alan) Maguire, and Kim (Mike) Wormuth; two siblings, Bernard and Emmett Jr.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on February 23 at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA. The funeral service will be held at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home at 2 p.m., interment will follow at the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Charlotte Court House.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
