Carl Gilbert Long Jr., age 77, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning January 6, 2021. He was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, the son of the late Carl Gilbert Long Sr. and Anna Mae Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Vernie Long; and his 2 brothers, Donald and Gordon Long. He is survived by his daughter Tammy Leigh Long; and 3 fur babies, King Louie, Bailey and Ms. Kitty. He is also survived by the following family; Betsy and Beverly Long, Kenneth (Vivian), Margie, Mike and Mark Trent; and several nieces and nephews.
Carl was a 1972 graduate of Randolph Henry High School, while also being a full time worker, husband and dad. He worked for Burlington and West Point Stevens for 39 years. He was a Deacon and a dedicated member of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church. Carl was a member of the Charlotte County Masonic Lodge since 1988. He also was a member of the Lions Club, and a board member of the Charlotte County United Way. He was committed to the Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball for many years. He also volunteered at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital. Carl will always be remembered as a gentle and caring soul. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone and he never met a stranger.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte Court House, VA. Public viewing will be Friday, January 8, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA. Due to COVID-19 restrictions masks and social distancing is required. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
