Douglas Melvin Napier, “Pop”, 74, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. He was born to Melvin Tucker Napier and Texie Murphy Napier on February 23, 1951.
He was proceeded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by a sister, Joyce Napier; a brother, Derrick Napier(Alice); daughter, Kimberly Napier Newcomb (Gary); son, Joshua Douglas Napier (Rachel); stepson, Tracy Mayhew; nine grandchildren, Logan Dean Newcomb (Storm), Walker Thomas Newcomb, Spencer Allen Napier, Ean Poindexter Napier, Eli Joshua Napier, Charlotte Grey Napier, Heather Wallace (Kenneth), Mollie Mayhew, Noah Mayhew; one great granddaughter, Abilene Jane Newcomb; and his faithful companion, Hank.
Pop was a member of Local 10 Pipefitters Welder Union for 45 years and a member of the Boiler Makers Union for more than two decades. He was known for sharing his knowledge in his profession. Pop freely offered life lessons to his children, grandchildren, and with everybody that he met. He believed the firmness of a person’s handshake was an indication of character. Two of his favorite sayings were “You know what I’m saying.” and “It’s between you, me, and the fence post.”
Visitation will be held at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on May 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service directly following at 2:00 p.m. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
