Eleanor Russell Hughes

Eleanor Russell Hughes, age 74, of Keysville, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Russell, Sr. and Anna Covington Russell; two brothers, Harold Russell and Clarence Russell.

Eleanor is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Julian “Pete” Hughes, Jr.; her daughter, Wendy Hughes Scruggs; her son, Brian K. Hughes and his wife, Gretchen; four grandchildren, Mary A. Scruggs, Holden B. Hughes, Harrison K. Hughes, and Hadley A. Coffey; two brothers, Charlie Russell, Jr., and his wife, Anita, Roy Russell and his wife, Shirley; one sister, Shirley Hopkins.

Eleanor was a devoted wife of fifty-three years, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed life and she was devoted to her community and to the people of her community.  Eleanor will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m.  Interment will follow in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Tri-county Community Action Agency, P O Box 799, South Boston, VA 24592.  The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
