Frederick Isaac Hanmer, Jr.

Frederick Isaac Hanmer, Jr., former owner of Hanmer Brothers Hardware of Keysville, died on October 4, 2010. He was 96 years old.

Mr. Hanmer graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1933, and worked as a chemist for E. I. du Pont de Nemors Company in Richmond, VA, New York, and Wilmington, Delaware. During World War II, he worked in the Quarter Master Generals Office in Washington, D. C. In 1945 he moved to Keysville, and operated Hanmer Brothers until his retirement in 1984. He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge; he served on the Town Council for 24 years. He served on the Keysville Volunteer Fire Department and was an active member of Keysville United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and serving on, and as chairman of the Administrative Board. He was also Lay Leader.

He was the son of Frederick I. Hanmer and Lelia Davis Hanmer. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Hanmer; two daughters, Sharon Dunn Larry of Keysville, Lisa Perdieu of Kansas City, one son, Rick Hanmer Alison of Richmond; six grandchildren, Christin Jackson of Keysville, Matthew Dunn of Keysville, Brian Perdieu of Kansas City, Todd Perdieu of Lynchburg, Justin Hanmer of Richmond, Katherine Hanmer of Richmond; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Keysville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 6 at 2 p.m., with interment following at Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5 at the church. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
