James “Jeff” F. Metcalf Iii

James “Jeff” F. Metcalf III, 61, of Phenix, VA passed away on November 7, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie and Linda Sue Metcalf.

He is survived by his wife Rita Metcalf, daughters Brittany (Heath) Bradley, Emily (Patrick) Andrews; and three grandchildren Bran Bradley, Bryar Bradley, and Ella Andrews.

Jeff had a love for all things hunting, golf, and ball at an early age. He traveled the states playing ball and then hunkered down within Charlotte County for hunting season. Later he married his wife Rita and took on the role of stepdad to two young girls. He didn’t have to but he made the girls (Emily and Brittany) one of his priorities. His ball and hunting seemed to fall to the wayside as he took to the stepdad role and was present for all games and activities throughout his life and fully supported them. As the years went on, he and Rita were able to enjoy time traveling together. They loved going to the mountains, the beach, shopping for antiques, visiting historical sites, and a good meal. Jeff, better known as 619 on the CB, had a love for CB radios as he made sure to get on his radio every night to talk to his local buddies.  If you wanted to know the local news, just ask Jeff because he had already heard it on the CB radio. He also had a love for playing golf, especially with his friends at Hat Creek Golf Course. Ball and hunting made a big return when his grandson Bran became involved. He was so proud to share the things he enjoyed with his grandson. He loved to show off Bran to his rabbit/deer hunting buddies, and tell him stories of all of their hunting trips. Jeff had an everlasting impression on his family and he had many unique ways of showing his love.

A memorial service will be held Thursday the 9th at Midway Baptist Church at 2:00 pm.  The  family will receive guests at the home afterwards.
