Dunn, Lavalette Irene Carroll “Lav” entered eternal life on Sunday, October 3, 2021, where she reunited with her husband of 64 years, Samuel T. Dunn “Sam”; her parents, Mary and Squire Carroll; and all those family members and friends who, with Jesus welcomed her. Her spirits are carried on by her four children, eight grandchildren six great-grandchildren, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.
Born March 31, 1919, in Arcola, Virginia, Lav lived and worked in Northern Virginia and DC until she moved to Charlotte County with her husband in 1953. There, she and Sam built a home and happily raised their children, Beverly D. Eubank (Alex) of Altavista, VA, Gary W. Dunn (Barbara) of Riverside, CA, Donald L. Dunn (Emily) of Herndon, VA, and Bruce C. Dunn (Winifred) of Saxe, VA. Her sweet, quiet loving nature warmed the hearts of her grand and great-grand children, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. As one of her physicians stated “she makes my heart smile every time I see her.”
The family owes a gratitude of thanks to her loving and devoted caregiver of ten years, AnnMarie Newcomb; the nieces, nephews, greats and grands that kept in touch with Aunt Lav over the years; the loving care from the ladies of Touch of an Angel; the staff at Altavista Medical Center; Centra Hospice of Lynchburg; Finch and Finch, Inc; and Browning-Duffer Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randolph, VA. A celebration of life will be held following the funeral service in the New Hope Fellowship Hall where everyone is invited for refreshments and sharing of memories. Memorials may be sent to New Hope United Methodist Church or a favorite charity of choice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is serving the family.
