Nellie Gray Taylor Dickerson, age 95, of Charlotte Court House, VA, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016. She was born on December 1, 1920, in Charlotte County, daughter of the late John Abb Taylor and Norma Thornton Taylor.
Nellie is survived by her daughter, Betty Dickerson Holt Jimmy, her son, Carlton Monroe Dickerson Bernard; two grandchildren, Timothy Wayne Holt Rhonda, and Christopher Douglas Holt Cynthia; one step-great-granddaughter, Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Gabe, Chance, Casey, and Carly; two sisters, Mary Taylor Dickerson and Lucy Machado Mike; one sister-in-law, Anna “Red” Taylor; and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Wilson Dickerson; two brothers, Abb Taylor and Henry Taylor; one sister, Blanche Taylor Peak.

Nellie was a member of Phenix Presbyterian Church and a Sunday School teacher for Intermediate classes for forty-seven years before retired. She was also a youth director for eight years, an Elder of Phenix Presbyterian Church, and a member of The South Central Parish Quilters. She taught Bible in the Elementary Schools of Charlotte County for a short time. Nellie worked in the Charlotte County School System for thirty-two years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016, in Phenix Presbyterian Church, Phenix, VA, with interment to follow in Rough Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Phenix, VA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Phenix Presbyterian Church Chime-Carillon Fund, P. O. 121, Phenix, VA 23959. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
