Randall “Randy” Whitt Jones, 69, of Red Oak, VA, passed away on January 14, 2025, at Rocky Mount Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Randy was born September 25, 1955, to Dorothy Whitt Jones and Horsley Edward Jones of Red Oak. He was the grandson of Pearl Rice Whitt and Emmett Owen Whitt of Chase City, VA, and Sula Garner Jones and Isham Grover Jones of Red Oak.

He graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 1977. Before attending graduate school, Randy worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Clarksville, VA. In 1986 he earned a Master’s degree in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an announcer, disc jockey, and news director at radio stations in southern Virginia, including WMEK in Chase City and FOX 99.9 FM in South Hill. Before his illness, Randy enjoyed gardening, farming, and raising cattle.

He is survived by brothers, Dean Jones (Barbara) of Salem, VA, and Gary Jones (Kelly) of Midlothian VA; and a sister, Joyce Jones (Troy) of Warrenton, VA; nieces, Andrea Sevel (Drew) of Columbus, Ohio, Hannah Holland and Kyra Holland of Warrenton, Mai Khanh Dinh (Patrick) of Benica, Calif., and Laura Jones of Salem; nephews, Christopher Jones (Kim) of Roanoke, VA, Bryan Jones (Melissa) of Westminster, MD, Khuong Dinh (Annie) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Vu Tran (Lauren) of Reno, Nev.; ten grandnieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, with interment to follow in Public Fork Cemetery, Red Oak. Reverend Dewey Barker will officiate. The Family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. before the service. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
