Robert L. Hanks “Bobby”, 89 passed away peacefully at his home February 6, 2025. He was born January 6, 1936, in Lunenburg County Virginia, the son of Orville and Cleo Hanks and was raised on the family dairy and tobacco farm.

Bobby graduated from Victoria High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation, he served in the US Army from June 1958 until March 1961, stationed in Germany. His service awards included The Good Conduct Medal and Expert Infantry Badge.

Bobby married Margaret Anne Duffie on February 26,1966. Bobby and Anne farmed together, raising a variety of crops, tobacco being the primary. In addition to the gardens and crops they raised, he also raised cattle, still having cows in the pasture until his passing.

Bobby was a lifetime member of Cool Spring Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting with Sugar Shack Hunt Club being fondly referred to as a Local Yokel, watching baseball games and playing guitar. He especially loved bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Anne; a brother, William O. Hanks “Billy”; and a sister, Ruth Hart.

Survivors include a son, David Hanks (Christine); a daughter, Susan Hanks (Kevin) both of Keysville; grandchildren, David Hanks II (Makayla), Caroline Hanks (Barry), Olivia and Sommer Davis; great-grandchildren, Wrenley Madison Hanks, Paisley Margaret Anne Hanks, Brantley and Huntleigh Garrett; brother, Franklin Hanks (Gloria) of Keysville; and a sister, Ruby Jane Robertson (Giles) of Richmond; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to his caregivers, Misty Carnes, our Aunt Gloria, Annette Rheurmond and Rhonda Holder, with out them we would not have been able to keep him comfortably in his home until he was reunited in Heaven with our mother. We would also like to thank and acknowledge the Amedysis Hospice Team, especially Kirsten Kellum and Kim Hudson, for the tender loving care the not only provided to him but to us.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Cool Spring Christian Church, Keysville, VA, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers please consider making memorial contributions in memory of our beloved Daddy to Keysville Volunteer Fire Department, Charlotte County Rescue Squad, or Meherrin Fire and Rescue. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville VA is in charge of arrangements.
