Mrs. Sadie Eloise Cobb Dobbins, 90, of Gainesville, GA died Monday, September 13, 2010 at New Horizons North Nursing Home in Gainesville, GA.
Sadie was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia on May 26, 1920. She graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, VA with a degree in Education. She taught physical education and home economics in several high schools in Charlotte County, VA, Statesville, NC, Valdosta, GA, Toccoa, GA, and at North Hall High School in Gainesville.
In addition to teaching and homemaking, Sadie was an avid volunteer. Service to others was one of Sadie’s greatest attributes. She always desired to help others. Sadie was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, volunteered at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, GA, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, the March of Dimes, and many other volunteer organizations throughout her life. Sadie was a lifelong Presbyterian and was always very active in church life. She was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, GA and an active member of Presbyterian Women’s Circle.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Archer Cobb and Grace Carter Cobb, her brother, Henry Archer Cobb, Jr., her brother-in-law L.M. Jones, and sister-in-law Bess Dobbins Maxey, all of Virginia.
Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Francis Henry Dobbins, Sr. of Gainesville, GA. Her sister, Betty Lee Cobb Jones of Charlotte Court House, VA. Her son and daughter-in-law, Francis Henry “Hank” Dobbins, Jr. and Deborah Dobbins of LaGrange, GA.
The funeral will be held on September 18th at 11:00 am at The Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Charlotte Court House, VA. Visitation will be on September 17th between 5:30 and 7:00 pm at the Browning-Duffer funeral home in Keysville, VA.
A memorial service for Mrs. Dobbins will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville GA in the near future.
