Mr. Thomas Edgar Locke, age 91, of Keysville, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ayrie Mason Locke; two daughters, Tricia Tucker and husband Tim, Rhonda Locke Sandridge and Jim Benn; grandchildren, Blake Tucker and wife Krystal, Seth Tucker and Fiancée Emiley Mitchell, Katie Biggers and husband Matt, George Thomas, Annie, and Pearl Sandridge; great-grandchildren Emma-Grace, Wyatt and Kinley Tucker.
Tommy was born and raised in the heart of “Eureka”. He served his country during WWII from 1942-1946, in the South Pacific as Army Staff Sergeant, 136th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group. After returning from the war, he began a life-long career that spanned 65 years, as a master carpenter and builder. After retiring from White’s Building Supply, he continued his carpentry skills by restoring antique wagons, building handcrafted furniture and grandfather clocks.
Tommy was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a dedicated member of Eureka Baptist Church, where he was so known for his beautiful voice in the church choir.
Tommy never met a stranger. His quick wit, wonderful humor and kind spirit cultivated friendships from folks of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone who ever met “Mr. Tommy” seemed to have a story to share. What a wonderful legacy he leaves behind.
A military service will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013, at 2 p.m., graveside at Eureka Baptist Church in Keysville, VA. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to a local charity of choice in his memory. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
